Addiction Counselling

The journey toward recovery is deeply personal, and taking the first step requires immense courage. At Cognitive Counselling Services, we provide a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals in Toronto looking to navigate the complexities of addiction and reclaim their well-being. Whether you are struggling with substance use, behavioral compulsions, or the emotional toll that accompanies addiction, our expert therapists are here to walk beside you.

Tailored Support for Life’s Most Difficult Patterns

We specialize in helping individuals break free from repetitive, unwanted cycles and develop resilient psychological toolkits. Our practice focuses deeply on three core areas:

Breaking Compulsive Habits & Routines
Are you feeling stuck in automatic, negative routines that disrupt your daily life? We work with you to identify behavioral triggers, dismantle unwanted habits, and rebuild positive, intentional lifestyle patterns.

Managing Impulse Control & Compulsive Behaviours
When impulses feel overwhelming, whether related to compulsive betting, gambling, spending, or repetitive high-risk behaviors, our targeted therapy provides the concrete strategies you need to pause, evaluate, and choose a different path.

Developing Healthy Coping Mechanisms
Behind every overwhelming habit is often unresolved stress, trauma, or emotional distress. We help you explore the root causes of your challenges, giving you the emotional coping tools to handle anxiety and life transitions without relying on old patterns.

Our Approach to Addiction Recovery

We believe in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. Our addiction counselling services are grounded in evidence-based modalities designed to build resilience and provide practical tools for long-term change.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to addiction.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): Developing skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness.

  • Solution-Focused Therapy: Focuses on your strengths and immediate, actionable steps to achieve your personal goals.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): Exploring the internal "parts" of the self to foster self-compassion and resolve internal conflict.

  • Trauma-Informed Care: Recognizing the deep link between past distressing experiences and current coping mechanisms.

Specialized Focused Areas

Our services are tailored to address the unique challenges that often intersect with addiction:

  • Navigating life transitions both personally and professionally.

  • Managing distressing feelings of anxiety, depression, and anger.

  • Improving self-worth, body image, and identity.

  • Strengthening interpersonal relationships and communication.
